Ayo and Teo: The Dynamic Dance Duo

Considered todays Dancing Machine, Teo is a Modern Michael Jackson, and the creator of a dance move called “The Reverse,” born Mateo Bowles, Teo is the youngest of the Dynamix Duo Dance Group “Ayo and Teo.” He and his brother, Ayo, born Ayleo Bowles, both grew up listening to the sounds and watching the moves of Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, Usher, and Missy Elliot. Though they never officially took dancing classes, they taught themselves how to dance and became two of the biggest dancers this era has come to know.
Fascinated by music and dancing, the two siblings created a YouTube channel promoting dance challenges, when in 2014, one of those videos went viral, pulling in more than 1 million views. Two years later, they dropped their first single entitled, "In Reverse," which led them to dancing in Usher’s “No Limit” video and their performing at the 2016 BET’s Award. Shortly after, they signed to Columbia records. Though success was evident, it wasn’t until their infectious single “Rolex” and dance video hit hard, racking up over 619 million views on YouTube and storming the Billboard Hot 100.

I had a chance to speak with the duo, whom I called the dancing kids, and very humbly they reminded me that they did way more than just dance. This dynamic dance duo, though known for their dancing skills have taken their fancy footwork to an entirely new level. In addition to dancing, they have added YouTube Video Production, choreography, music writing and producing, modeling, fashion designers, and much more to their repertoire. They have caught the eyes and ears of major record labels such as Capital Records,  pop stars like Chris Brown, Usher, Jazzy Phe, and Polo the don. Fashion extraordinaire Philipp Plein and Sneaker AllStar, Converse has added them to their Model walks, and the Hit Game Fort Nite hired them to animate their dance routines in their game. This sibling powerhouse is highly underrated and overlooked, but after the release of their new EP Bring a Friend and the launch of their own merchandise line, there’ll be no more underestimating.

Long before the COVID-19 Pandemic and FaceMask epidemic, Ayo and Teo were known for their trademark bear face masks, and unconventional eccentric looks. There’s no question that the two have influence not just the HipHop culture but the world culture. Michael Jackson once said after doing his classic “Moonwalk” on stage that, “The moonwalk came from...beautiful black kids who live in the ghettos, in the inner cities,  who are brilliant. They have that natural talent for dancing...They came up with these dances, all I did was just enhanced them.” -michaeljackson-

The king of POP attributed his patented moves to kids from ghettos and the inner cities.  Decades later, two young kids hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, have now taken the stage broadcasting their talents and  inspiring the world. Michael Jackson walked his way to the moon, and thrilled Billy Jean on the way, while Ayo and Teo, continue to WoW the world and push the culture forward, “wit just a Rolli and ice on they wrist to look better when they dance.” @mj_ghb
