
Black is King: A Film By Beyoncé
Beyoncé, the Queen Bee, releases her second Visual Album entitled, Black is King. The film, based on music from Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift, follows the journey of a young boy who learns life lessons from his ancestors, Black families, and inspiring Voices throughout his travels. According to a Disney press release, Black is King, “reimagines the lessons of The Lion King for today’s young kings and queens [who are] in search of their own crowns.” In a joint statement from Disney and Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment production company, it read, “Black is King is a celebratory memoir for the world on the Black experience, the visual follows a new narrative based on a young king’s “transcendent journey through betrayal, love, and self-identity.”
On June 29, 2020 Beyonce dropped the Trailer for Black is King, which is scheduled to be released on Disney+ July 31. The teaser features striking images of Black Excellence and promises to bring the same rich visual storytelling to Black Is King, as Beyonce done with Lemonade. The Queen, using African dancers, filmmakers and directors on this project, she will also be credited as writer, director, and executive producer.
